1. How difficult
is it to install a back up generator and what size is required
for residential use?
1. A. Our new line of GENERAC generators come complete in a
weather proof, sound attenuated package. The site preparation
required is a clear level area 5 feet by 5 ½ feet with
5" of gravel. The Generator comes complete with a battery
a composite pad so no concrete pad is required. An automatic
transfer switch is available with a pre-wired harness to simplify
the installation.
For most residences, a 10KW or 16KW generator will provide adequate
emergency standby power however correctly sizing a generator
depends on the loads it will serve. Typical circuits requiring
back up are: Refrigerator, Freezer, Furnace, One lighting circuit,
Television, Microwave, Dishwasher, Security System, Garage Door
Opener, Well Pump, Sewage pump (for sand mound), Air Cond. /
Heat Pump, Water Heater, Stove (for gas stove Electric Igniter)
or Electric Stove. Each homeowner will have a preference and
the generator should be sized to meet their needs. Broadway
Electric has a unit on display. Please visit us and someone
will be glad to help you pick the correct size.
